POSITION TITLE: School Counselor QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certificationREPORTS TO: Building PrincipalLOCATION: Middle SchoolFLSA Status: Exempt GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Ability to lead a teamCounseling students individually in problem-solving skills, communication skills, and decision-making skills.Conducting initial counseling in crisis situations and making referrals to community resources as necessaryAssisting parents and administration with referrals and exchange of information about community resources as requiredConsulting with students, teachers, parents, and administration regarding academic progress to assist students in resolving issues and modifying behaviorParticipating with multi-disciplinary teams regarding special needs students/504 students to include staffing, consulting, testing, and recommending for appropriate accommodationsEnrolling and assisting new students in acclimation to school's procedures, learning opportunities, and extracurricular activitiesTracking student progress toward completion by developing and implementing an educational plan and credit checkAssisting students and parents annually in course selection and enrollment for the next school yearProviding information to students and parents regarding educational resources, such as A+ tutors, summer academy, correspondence courses, and study-skills materialsAdvising students who have not made sufficient progress toward graduation of their enrollment status for the following school yearSummer school planning and preparationOTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.Serve on committees as assigned.Remain current on instructional practices in education.Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Annual contract for school year and Extended School Year, if applicable, in accordance with the provisions of Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified staff.Background clearance required; the results of which must be satisfactory to the District.EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
