General Purpose: The Instructional Designer plays a key role in supporting academic excellence by collaborating with faculty, curriculum, and academic departments to design, develop, and enhance instructional content for a variety of delivery formats, including in-person and hybrid courses. This position focuses on applying evidence-based instructional design principles, integrating learning technologies, and promoting inclusive, learner-centered teaching practices. Working within CSI’s academic framework, the Instructional Designer provides guidance in curriculum development, course alignment, and assessment strategies to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities: Under the leadership of the Director of Educational Technology:

  • Collaborate with curriculum team and academic leadership to design and revise instructional content for in-person and hybrid courses.
  • Apply evidence-based instructional design principles to create engaging, accessible, and outcomes-driven learning experiences.
  • Support curriculum development through the alignment of course objectives, instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments.
  • Recommend and integrate appropriate educational technologies and digital tools to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness.
  • Assist in the development of instructional materials such as syllabi, rubrics, learning modules, and multimedia content.
  • Promote inclusive and learner-centered design approaches to support diverse student populations and learning needs.
  • Review and evaluate instructional materials for quality, accessibility, and compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.
  • Monitor course implementation and review feedback from faculty and students to support continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with institutional business partners to support strategic academic initiatives and ensure alignment with CSI’s academic goals.
  • Stay current with trends in instructional design, educational technology, and higher education pedagogy through ongoing professional development.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field required.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in instructional design or curriculum development in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing instructional content for in-person and hybrid learning environments.
  • Strong understanding of instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, Backward Design, Universal Design for Learning).
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency with learning management systems, particularly Moodle.
  • Experience using Canva for visual content creation and instructional support materials.
  • Proficiency with Articulate 360 (Storyline, Rise) for the development of interactive e-learning modules.
  • Familiarity with video editing, screen recording, and basic multimedia production tools is a plus.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.

Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.

Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Experienced in presenting material to students and all levels of employees.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Equipment/Computer Skills: High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Able to adapt quickly to software applications including course management systems, learning management systems, etc.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

May require occasional travel to CSI campus locations.
