This is to fill one permanent full-time term position, working 75 hours bi-weekly.

The Manager - Litigation is responsible for the efficient operation of the Litigation Group and for supervising and managing the provision of professional and comprehensive legal advice and services related to the Litigation Group and such other professional practice units as may be determined by the Assistant Deputy Minister, Legal Services Branch (“ADM”) or Director, from time to time.

The Manager - Litigation must also provide legal advice and services to Government of Yukon departments, corporations and elected officials, including with respect to matters that are sensitive, significant, or high profile. Based on capacity the group's capacity and needs, this position will carry a reduced case load, with management duties being the primary focus.

This position is a key member of the Senior Management Team (ADM, Director, Managers and Senior Counsel) who provides guidance and direction to staff and participates in the development and implementation of the department’s strategic, and operations plans, policies, and programs.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Common Law Degree - Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD).
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Yukon or eligibility for admission to the Law Society of Yukon
  • Significant experience in litigation
  • Demonstrated experience managing lawyers, teams, coaching and mentoring staff, enhancing employee engagement, and improving performance.

Candidates who have training and considerable experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Candidate should have and may be assessed on the following:

  • A strong combination of legal expertise, leadership skills, and strategic vision to effectively oversee legal operations and drive organizational success.
  • Proficiency in change management, guiding teams through legal, regulatory, and procedural shifts with clarity and adaptability.
  • Ability to manage and administer intake and service delivery effectively.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be responsive, build relationships with, and work effectively with stakeholders.
  • The ability to implement new policies or legal frameworks while minimizing disruption.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are also necessary to mentor junior lawyers, foster collaboration, and build resilience within the team.
